CBCT: ARE YOU GETTING THE FULL PICTURE?

Dr. Lea Al Matny

Description:
Digital imaging has become one of the most important diagnostic tools for oral health professionals. CBCT, specifically, was being widely adapted after it demonstrated a great impact in the diagnosis of fractures, resorption, intraosseous pathosis, implant placement, and more. Does this, however, mean an automatic CBCT scan of the teeth in question is in the best interest of our patients? Does this justify the effective dose patients are routinely exposed to?

In this session, we will examine different scenarios three-dimensional imaging can impact our diagnosis and treatment plan. Then, review the current selection criteria and standard of care we currently have in place for dental radiographs. We will also address the benefits of establishing a CBCT imaging protocol as a comprehensive diagnostic tool.

Objectives:

  • Recognize the impact three-dimensional imaging can have on diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Understand and explain radiation exposure to patients.
  • Establish an imaging protocol to systematically incorporate CBCT.
